The Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County (FACCOC) find ourselves compelled, in our humble way, to assist our fellow Filipinos back home in the Philippines, after this devastating natural disaster of Typhoon Yolanda (internationally known as Haiyan). This catastrophe makes us all realize the good fortune we find ourselves and of our deep rooted need to help our fellow humans. We reach out to you our friends, family, business partners, corporate sponsors, advisory board members and fellow chambers of different ethnicities and cities to join FACCOC and to donate whatever amount you can.
100% of your proceeds will be donated to the neediest areas designated by the ABS-CBN Foundation (a 501©3) through its “Sagip-Kapamilya” (the emergency humanitarian assistance program of ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. “Artists United” Concert to Raise Funds for Philippine Disaster Relief Through the
On Tuesday morning, October 16, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the Visayas and parts of Mindanao and Luzon in the Philippines. The epicenter was located 2 kilometers southeast of Carmen town in the Bohol province, known for its internationally famous “Chocolate Hills” and the world’s smallest primates, the tarsiers. The seas receded, beaches became elevated and wider, mountain tops gaped open and Bohol gained 500 meters of new shoreline. All in all, the earthquake affected over 3 million residents in the central Philippines – 222 dead, over P2Billion (pesos) in damages to roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and other public buildings in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. Even worse, the earthquake destroyed century-old churches and structures, historical edifices that have been standing for 400 to 500 years. More than three weeks later, aftershocks still shake the area. But even though more than 400,000 workers are still affected by the disaster, rebuilding efforts have begun and relief services are still in full swing.
To help answer the call for assistance, a cadre of Filipino performing artists will join forces on Friday, November 15, for a benefit concert to raise funds for the Philippine Red Cross through the Apl.de.ap Foundation International. “Artists United: A Concert for Philippine Disaster Relief” will feature the talents of Bernardo Bernardo, Albert John Buyco, Mon David and his children Nicole and Carlo, Gelo Francisco, Becca Godinez, Ric Ickard, Matthew John Ignacio, Jazz Moves, Tateng Katindig, Giji Kocher, Nicole Jarin Martinez, Charmie Morales, Ciel Perlas, Ninette Tenza and Miguel Vera with other artists expected to join the lineup.
“Like many other concerts that I have been a part of when it comes to disaster relief, this one started with one person wanting to help; then that person invited someone else and so on and so on and so on,” explains Rex Sampaga of PAE Live! who will be directing the show. “That’s what makes these type of concerts unique…the spontaneity, the caliber of artists that want to perform but more importantly, the spirit of collaboration in which they are coming together for a meaningful cause. It also helps that we are fortunate to be partnering with the Bicycle Casino because they want to help out too.”
“We couldn’t be happier!” exclaimed Sharon Palma and Christine Ramos of Appleseed LA, the production company partnering with PAE Live! to co-produce the concert. “The Bicycle Casino reached out to us to see how they could help with disaster relief efforts in the Philippines. They are providing a fantastic space for the concert, are helping us with staffing for the event and, as a special incentive to the audience, they are creating a Filipino/Chinese buffet which will begin at 5:00p.m. and for only $9.95 per person. We are thrilled to have the Bicycle Casino host this concert, which will be their first-ever event for the Filipino Community of Los Angeles!”

Fundraiser for Victims of Typhoon Haiyan – 11/19/13 @
By Philippine American Bar Association
Friends,
On behalf of PABA and the PABA Foundation, thank you for the outpouring of support and concern you have shared with us for our extended families in the Philippines. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), especially those in Tacloban and others in the hardest hit areas of Central Philippines.
As the devastating footage evinces, Haiyan is the most powerful typhoon in recorded history, with winds raging at 195 to 235 mph, equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane. Its clouds stretched over two-thirds of the country. The death toll from Haiyan has been estimated to be as high as 10,000 people; more than 9.5 million have been affected, about 4 million of whom are children. As of recent updates, only one road has been cleared between Tacloban and the airport, causing delay in receipt of much needed supplies.
We hope that those on the ground are safe; those who deliver aid are expeditious; and those in need of a helping hand, find it. Though the Philippine spirit is resilient, it will take a collective effort to ensure that the ability to rebuild a new life exceeds the devastation. To this end, PABA, in conjunction with UNICEF and other community leaders, is taking part in a fundraiser on Tuesday, November 19th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the SmithHouse. Attendees will have the opportunity to make direct donations to UNICEF (whose offices are directly above SmithHouse), and a portion of the proceeds from the bar will be donated as well.
Please stay tuned for additional information. If you have questions or comments in the interim, please do not hesitate to contact Hildy Aguinaldo directly by phone (661.755.6942) or by e-mail at ([email protected]).
